Our Culinary Journey

Nostimo By The Original Greek is the result of 45 years of tradition of the Anagnostou family bringing delicious authentic Greek cuisine to Peterborough

In 1976 Paul and Mary Anagnostou brought the first Greek restaurant to Peterborough when they opened The Shish Kabob Hut. Their son George grew up in the family business and learned all the skills and techniques to create delicious authentic Greek dishes 

At the age of 24 George opened his own restaurant The Greek Tycoon in Whitby, Ontario. This widely popular restaurant continues to thrive and is still known as one of Durham regions best Greek restaurants. George decided to learn and grow further by pursuing a deeper knowledge of wine and becoming a wine sommelier. He continued his success by opening a wine bar in Toronto's posh Avenue Road neighbourhood. After a few years when George had conquered Toronto's food scene he returned to Peterborough to open The Original Greek at Parkhill and Water

All the while, his soon to be friend and business partner Shannon Leclair had worked in many restaurants and wanted to sharpen her skills by attending George Brown College to study Culinary Arts. After graduation she began apprenticing at some of Toronto's most well known and celebrated restaurants and hotels. Learning from Toronto's finest chefs and honing her own skills in French, Mediterranean and Asian cuisines. After earning her Red Seal Chef designation she was looking to make her mark on the culinary world

Fast forward to 2021 when George and Shannon embark on a new culinary adventure together to realize their vision of bringing authentic Greek cuisine back to Peterborough
